Becky Lyn (Murphy) Green returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, due to an automobile accident. Becky was born March 11, 1955, to John and Nancy Murphy. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1973 and earned her associate degree from Dixie College in 1976. She married her "Angels," Michael Clifton Green, on April 13, 1978, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three beautiful daughters, TeAh (Daniel) Phoenix, Kortny (Darrick) Pope, and Nicollette (Danial) Atwood. Becky had one beautiful granddaughter, Kiayah Atwood, whom she loved dearly.
Becky was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary President, counselor, teacher, secretary and nursery leader. Becky truly enjoyed many hobbies; she loved reading, sewing and quilting, scrapbooking, and tole painting, and enjoyed any time she could have with her granddaughter and family. Becky is survived by her husband, Mike, her three daughters and one granddaughter, her parents John & Nancy Murphy, her sisters Barbara Powell, Susan Wetzel and Colleen Earley, her brother Mark Murphy, Clifton & Joyce Green (father- & mother-in-law) and a loving extended family. The family extends its special thanks to Dr. Strong and his staff, and all those who took care of Mom.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at the LDS meetinghouse in Garden City, Utah. There will be a viewing from 9:30-11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at noon. Interment will be at the Garden City Memorial Park.

Christine Mace Hampton
July 31, 1955 - June 30, 2011

Christine Mace Hampton, loving mother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend was taken all too soon from us.  Her battle with cervical cancer came to an end June 30 2011.  Leaving behind the joy of her life, daughter, Kat Hampton, along with her mother Mildred, brothers, Steve, Craig, Ben Pat, Shawn, and Joe. 

Christine was a devoted mother wanting Kat to achieve all that she desired.  She worked at Dan's Grocery Store where she was a friend to everyone and mothered the youth she worked with.  She will be greatly missed.  She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Glen Mace.   Christine encourages all women to get screened for cancer.  

Susan Blackwood Morris

Our beloved Susan succumbed to complications from a brain injury sustained nine years ago. Susan was born May 15, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Cecil E. and Betty Chivers Blackwood.
Susan grew up in Sandy, Utah and was a graduate of Jordan High School. Susan’s career path led her to many jobs that until that time had mainly been held by men. For example, car dealerships, industrial manufacturing, and heavy equipment sales. She excelled at all of them. It was a source of pride to her that she was able to help break barriers for women in the job market at that time.
Susan married Glenn W. Morris on September 30, 1983. They enjoyed 28 years together and supported each other through many hardships. Susan loved animals and was never without a trusted dog at her side. She saved many from shelters and unhappy homes.
She also loved, gardening, art, reading and gambling. She loved finding new and creative ways to decorate her home, usually with things she created herself.
She loved her family above all else and even in her fragile physical state and repeated hospital stays, was always more concerned with her family’s welfare than her own. Susan’s mother was of special support to her since her accident and not a day went by without them spending hours on the phone together.
Susan is survived by her husband Glenn, parents Cecil and Betty, daughter Annjaniece (Malcolm) Dastrup, grandsons Tristynn Morris and Brenden Dastrup, her brother Lance(Cynthia) Blackwood, Her two sisters Lynne(Paul) Collins and Karen Blackwood. Also survived by 3 nieces, two nephews and many loving members of her extended family.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Please join the family in sharing your memories and stories to honor Susan’s life.

Lauri Christensen Applegarth

Lauri Christensen Applegarth1954 ~ 2011Lauri Christensen Applegarth passed away at home on December 22, 2011 of natural causes in Little Elm, Texas. Born November 23, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard and Fontelle Atkinson Christensen; Lauri grew up in Draper, Utah. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1972. She worked many years for Granite School District. Lauri loved her family, especially her daughter Marnie who was the light of her life. Her next great joy came when she became "Grandma" to Lindsey. Lauri had a generous spirit and would gladly give the shirt off her own back for anyone who needed it. She never forgot a birthday and could always be counted on for a phone call on important days. She loved the outdoors, especially camping and gardening. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed sewing her own clothing. Lauri loved her dogs and always had at least one as a companion. Survived by, Loving daughter Marnie (Moises) Alvarenga. Granddaughter Lindsey. Parents, Richard and Fontelle Atkinson Christensen. Sisters, Julie (Tim) Joos; Kelly (Scott) Fowler; many beloved nieces and nephews.Lauri, you will be greatly missed by your family and friends. You have touched many lives and will never be forgotten. Your daughter has learned everything she knows from you and looks forward to seeing you again. We love you!Funeral services to be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on Thursday, December 29 @ 2:00 p.m. Viewing is 1 hour prior to services. 3401 S. Highland Dr. Salt Lake City.

Gratitude Luncheon 2010

On November 13, 2010 we welcomed in the Holiday Season at our First Gratitude Luncheon. We have so much to be thankful for and friendship is high on the list. It was great fun, we laughed, we cried, we reminisced of yesteryear and shared our hopes and dreams of tomorrow. Those in attendance were Janet Glad, Janet Price, Marilyn Leatherbury, Susan Jones, Gloria Ivie, Cindy Lamping, Jacquie Wall, Carol Bailey, Kelley Bakker, Karleen Fitzgerald, Brenda McFarlane and me. Everyone brought something and wow can some of these girls cook. For the record Carol Bailey
is amazing she made caramel apples that looked and tasted better than any store bought ones.
Some of the recipes for the day were:

California Quiche (coy)

Mix in the large bowl the following:

12 to 18 eggs 1 tsp baking powder
1 square melted butter ½ tsp salt
½ cup flour 1 pint cottage cheese
1 lb. of cheese: You may use what ever cheese you like or mix cheeses if that suits you. I have used cheddar, jack, Swiss, mozzarella or what I had on hand.

Add to it ham, bacon, sausage, olives, green peppers, mushrooms, chopped green chilies or what ever you would like.
Pour into a jelly roll pan and bake for 45 minutes at 350
Serve with avocados, sour cream, fresh tomatoes, salsa, or chili sauce.

Carrot Cake (coy)

Beat together:
4 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
½ cup salad oil or 1½ cup butter

Mix dry ingredients in
2½ cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon

Add carrots
3 cups grated carrots

Pour into floured pans. Bake approximately 45 – 55 minutes depending on pan size used

Frost with Martha Stewart’s cream cheese frosting recipe
Makes enough for one 9-inch, three-layer cake
• 16 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
• 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
• 2 sticks (16 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces and brought to room temperature
• 2 pounds confectioners' sugar, sifted
Directions
1. Beat cream cheese and vanilla with a mixer on medium speed until creamy. Gradually add butter, beating until incorporated after each addition.
2. Reduce speed to low. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, and beat until fluffy and smooth. Frosting can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days; bring to room temperature and stir well before using.

Seven Layer Bars (Gloria Ivie)

1 cube melted butter
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup flaked coconut
1 6 oz pkg. chocolate chips
1 6 oz pkg. butterscotch chips
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chopped nuts

Use a 9X13 inch pan. Pour butter into pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs evenly in the bottom of pan. Do the same with chocolate chips, coconut and butterscotch chips. Drizzle Eagle Brand milk evenly over top of ingredients. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top of milk. DO NOT MIX. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Cool before cutting. Enjoy it is delicious!


This is just the beginning. So if you were unable to attend we are going to have 4 luncheons throughout the next year starting on January 15, 2011. It will be held at 6301 So. 1300 West, Taylorsville. We will be celebrating the New Year and all the birthdays from January through March. It is potluck so bring your favorite soup or salad or whatever you feel like, but please come.
